Waupaca's Lesser known swimming spots

Waupaca offers many great swimming spots. Here are a few of the lesser know spots. These hidden gems are a fantastic spot to cool off or even train for a triathlon.


#1  Marl lake dock - upper chain o' lakes

Part of Hartman's Creek State Park the Marl Lake dock is located on the quiet upper chain. In the Upper Chain you will not find a motorized boat, making these lake perfect for kayaking, swimming, and paddle boarding. Marl lake's unique limestone bottom gives off a rich turquoise blue color. The lake and public dock is only a short walk from the parking lot off of Whispering Pines road. The area has picnic tables and benches overlooking the dock and lake. At the end of the dock the drop-off is about 10 feet making it best for experienced swimmers. People enjoy bringing tubes and relaxing on hot summer days. This is also a great location to swim for fun or to train for a triathlon. Please note that a valid Wisconsin State Park passes is required.


#2  government island - Chain O' Lakes

Located in Rainbow lake, the largest lake of the Chain O' Lakes, is government island. Pull up your boat to the shores of the island and take a swim or play catch.  The sandy shores will not disappoint. Since the swimming spot is right in the middle of all the action of the Chain, it's the perfect spot for family to relax while taking turns skiing or tubing on the 203 acre lake. If you get hungry the Clear Water Harbor bar is only a few minute boat ride from the island. Pull up right to the restaurant's dock and enjoy the wide variety of food that the harbor offers.

#3 Hartman's Creek beach - hartman's creek state park

Hartman's Creek offers a fantastic sand beach right on Hartman lake. With many picnic tables, charcoal grills, and shaded areas this area is perfect for a family picnic. Relax in the sandy swim area, or rental a Kayak, Paddle board or Canoe at Adventure Outfitters Outpost. The Outpost also has all camping necessities and ice cream and slushies, to enjoy on hot summer days. If the kids want to take a break from swimming, this spot also as a full playground. Well maintained and plenty of space for privacy this beach is definitely one of the best Waupaca has to offer. Please note that a valid Wisconsin State Park passes is required.
