Sunset Lake Rentals

About Sunset Lake

89± acres, maximum depth of 63 feet. It was named from the Indian translation for “sunrise.” The first structure on the Chain was built on Sunset Lake. Natural mineral springs, first discovered in 1880s, are still bubbling near the shoreline. Test results from that time as well as in 1992 found the mineral water free of organic matter and sulfates, thus classifying it as “medicinal.” There were many fine inns and summer resorts at the turn of the 20th century with American Plan accommodations and boat liveries. Currently, Sunset Lake is home to Onaway Island (Camp Onaway/Boys Brigade) and Loyola Villa, a Jesuit retreat.
